Do you think evolution could\'ve been God\'s method of creation? Why, or why not?

I don't subscribe to that line of thnking myself. From what it says in Genesis chapter 1, Yahweh made all creatures according to their kinds right from the start. (Genesis 1:12, 21, 24-25). After all that, God made Adam from dust, not from monkeys (Genesis 2:7), and Eve was made directly from Adam (Genesis 2:22).
I feel the Genesis account gives a clear idea that things were directly created, not formed through an evolutionary method.
Love, Tami

Me neither, Tami. I don't know how evolutionists get around the scriptures you pointed out, each according to its kind; and also it specifically says Adam was created from the earth and then life was breathed into him. Are they setting these things aside to come up with evolution?
And the monkeys or apes of today, why didn't they evolve into humans?
The Creation book brought out a good point, I've always thought, the older the fossil the hairier and more ape-like the artist's rendition.

This kind of gives me an idea of what evolutionists have to do with Genesis in order to believe in evolution:
Dr. Conrad Hyers, the chair of religion at Gustavus Adolphus College, used to be a fundamentalist Christian and a creationist, but today he is a moderate evangelical and an evolutionist, and has written a scholarly, captivating, and entertaining book on the creation accounts in Genesis. He explains what scholars have to say about them, and what meanings they contain. And why such meanings do not rely on a literal reading of Genesis. His book is titled, The Meaning of Creation. He is also well known for having written a number of entertaining and scholarly books on the interrelationships between spirituality, humility, and comedy.

I just love it when people pick and choose what is literal and what is not in the bible. #rolleyes# I mean, some things are obviously symbolic, such as prophetic symbols....but other things, such as the creation account, have no reason to be non-literal. If a person can believe that God created the planet earth and the solar system, why can't they believe He can also create a fully developed human? I don't get it. #dunno#

Hi Tami,
I haven't yet read this whole thread but evolution seems to be a very hit and miss method of creation. I was sitting in our conservatory the other day and witnessed a battle between a bumble bee and a spider. the spider won, and skillfully avoided the deadly sting of the bee. Had this been a product of evolution, it is difficult to see how enough spiders would have survived to allow the genetic mutation needed to fix it within the species!
Intelligent design is much more logical possibility, in my opinion. What do you think?

Intelligent Design makes far more sense than random evolution.
When's they last time a random accident improved a situation? When's the last time a random mutation improved a creature? Accidents and mutations are well known for being terrible tragedies. But for some reason, that point gets buried. sigh.

Whereas I would allow for the notion of creation through evolution as a possibility I feel the scriptures do not support it.
The main problem with evolution (other than lack of scriptural support) is that science is against it. The theory lurches from one crisis to another. Each time it does they patch it up with a 'new' sub-theory that re-explains how evolution could have occurred despite scientific evidence demolishing the previous version of the theory.
Ironically science is evolution's own worst enemy. Typically though science doesn't seem count for much amongst scientists nowadays!

Science only counts when scientists want it to count. #wink#

Hi, everyone!
We need to recognize that the Bible is not a manual on science. However, the study of modern science started from a Christian point of view, starting with a belief in the world environment being the product of God as Creator. That is not to say that the Bible is at all scientifically incorrect, it is not in very many ways. If people study the actual fossil record they can see that the kinds of creatures generally arose in the order stated in Genesis. However, some Christians are as selective as to what they will see as some scientists. It is further interesting that many scientists now advance intelligent design as a genuine means that the cosmos came to exist. Whilst this does not mean that they state that they believe that God did it (!) it seems to me to be a step in the right direction.

i know how evolutionist get around the scriptures. the simply haven't read them (like me) or don't understand them at all.
and i have a question to ask.are we so sure that Eve was created from Adam? even tho it says it in the bible. modern biology clearly shows that it is impossible for a man to bear a child. unless. you are a hermaphrodite. and woman doesn't count for that lol
Intelligent Design? whats that I'm stupid when it comes to things like this. (grew up with science but am looking for answers). kinda trying to make my own hybrid theory
PS. Tami i think I'm gonna b up late for this one. need help digesting it all. wanna try to look at things from your perspective
and yes i know what i just said. (well mostly)
